Description: The tall points of a monarch's crown encircle wooden contours three times. Abraham Owusu Ansah crafts a handsome djembe, carving the motifs in low relief. He sculpts the drum from tweneboa wood, finished with mansion polish. The goatskin head is affixed by iron rings wrapped in cotton, and cotton cords tighten the drumhead. The djembe originated in Benin, where it is used in traditional ceremonies and voodoo rituals; today it appears in reggae groups the world over.
