Djembe - Ntoboase

out of captivity carved djembe (larger image)

Description: Dramatic floral motifs grace a beautiful djembe drum by Nana Adu Amankwapam I. Carved from warm tweneboa wood, this traditional percussion instrument is finished with mansion polish. The goatskin head is affixed by iron rings wrapped in cotton, and its macramé cord can be slung over the shoulder. The djembe originated in Benin, where it is used during voodoo rites, and has been introduced into neighboring countries such as Ghana. Amankwapam names this original piece Ntoboase, which means "patient" in the Akan language. This sort of drum is played widely throughout Ghana and Nigeria.

TESTAMONIALS
"I just received my wood mask "My Sister" beautifully crafted my Nana Adu Amankwapam I - It is so exquisite that I hate to give it away. I bought it for one of my sisters, Jill. I would love another like it for myself and wonder if I could commision Nana. I do plan on looking at all of his work for something similar. Thank you, Nana!"
