Description:
Waves flow
and ebb, their gentle shapes lapping at the base of an extraordinary
drum. Samuel Coleman creates a beautiful field of texture
in warm tweneboa wood. Sculpted by hand, it adorns this remarkable
djembe. The djembe drum originated in Benin, where it is used
during voodoo rites, and has been introduced into neighboring
countries; it has become indispensable in reggae. Coleman
names this drum Mpitim, which means "Musical Organ" in the
Akan language. The goatskin head is affixed by iron rings
wrapped in cotton, and a macramé cord can be slung over the
shoulder.
