Description:
Voluptuous
rings of encircle the base of this djembe by Stephen Arthur
Acheampong. Named Nkawa Nkesie ("Large Rings" in the Akan
language), the handsome drum is hewn from emire wood and finished
with mansion polish. The goatskin head is affixed by iron
rings wrapped in cotton, and nylon cords hold it tight while
embossed aluminum adorns the sides. The drum originated in
Benin, where it is used in traditional ceremonies and voodoo
rituals; today it appears in reggae groups the world over.
