Description:
Ralph Agudze
titles this djembe drum Awisome, meaning "in their hands"
in the Ewe language. An instrument whose origins may be found
in the Ivory Coast, its rhythms often accompany ceremonies
of ritual importance. The body is carved from sturdy and resonant
tweneboa wood, adorned with mesmerizing rings of black. Agudze
stretches goatskin across the top, as iron rod rings keep
the drumhead taut. The rings are wrapped in cotton cloth to
prevent rusting. Agudze also comments that the drum features
and Adinkra symbol called Dwan Nin Amen, meaning the "horns
of the ram."
